PUTRAJAYA, May 12 (Bernama) — Malaysia has been successfully re-elected to serve another term in the Executive Council of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) for the period of 2024 – 2026, said the Foreign Ministry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ministry, widely known as Wisma Putra in a statement Saturday said the Malaysia was re-elected during the 28th Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CSP-28), which was held in The Hague, Netherlands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe two-year term will commence from (Sunday) 12 May 2024 until 11 May 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Executive Council, which consists of 41 OPCW Member States, holds a pivotal role in overseeing the operations of the Technical Secretariat and is responsible for promoting the effective implementation of, and compliance with, the Chemical Weapons Convention,\u201d the statement read. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Wisma Putra the re-election underscores Malaysia’s steadfast commitment in actively contributing to the OPCW’s mandate of ensuring the prohibition of chemical weapons and promoting global peace and security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMalaysia expresses its gratitude for the trust and confidence extended by the OPCW Member States,\u201d it added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wisma Putra said Malaysia continues to contribute its extensive experience and expertise to the Executive Council, having previously served five terms, including the most recent term of 2022\u20132024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Malaysia, through the National Authority for the Chemical Weapons Convention of the Foreign Ministry looks forward to collaborating with Member States and the OPCW Technical Secretariat to advance the agenda and objectives of the Organisation for the benefit of all humankind, said the statement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
