{"id":261671,"date":"2024-04-24T15:21:39","date_gmt":"2024-04-24T07:21:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=261671"},"modified":"2024-04-24T15:32:07","modified_gmt":"2024-04-24T07:32:07","slug":"philippines-tallies-six-heat-related-deaths","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=261671","title":{"rendered":"Philippines Tallies Six Heat-Related Deaths"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>MANILA, Apr 24 (NNN-PNA) &#8211; The Philippines&#8217; Department of Health (DOH), today said, it has received at least 34 cases of heat-related illness, including six deaths, from Jan 1 to Apr 18, this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The causes of death are still for verification,&#8221; DOH Assistant Secretary, Albert Domingo, said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 34 reported heat-related cases were from the central Visayas region, in the central Philippines, the Ilocos region in the northern Philippines, and the Soccsksargen region, in the southern Philippines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eleven areas in five regions, including Metro Manila, suspended in-person classes today, following the state weather bureau&#8217;s warning of heat indexes reaching &#8220;danger&#8221; level, exceeding 42 degrees Celsius.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bureau cautioned that, exposure to hot weather may cause cramps, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Early this month, the bureau warned of a scorching heat index of up to 51 degrees Celsius in some areas across the country.
