{"id":257846,"date":"2024-03-15T15:33:02","date_gmt":"2024-03-15T07:33:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=257846"},"modified":"2024-03-15T15:33:03","modified_gmt":"2024-03-15T07:33:03","slug":"malaysias-pm-anwars-stand-on-gaza-draws-support-from-prominent-figures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=257846","title":{"rendered":"Malaysia\u2019s PM Anwar\u2019s Stand On Gaza Draws Support From Prominent Figures"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>BERLIN, March 15 (Bernama) &#8212; Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim&#8217;s criticism on Western countries&#8217; lack of action against Israel&#8217;s atrocities in Gaza has drawn support from prominent figures across various fields globally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Former All Blacks star Sonny Bill Williams in a posting on X (former Twitter) said history cannot be forgotten when discussing issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut I of course cannot accept the fact that when you discuss issues, we\u2019re only confined to one particular incident forgetting the thousands and thousands of victims from the NAKBA (catastrophe) of 1947-48\u201d,\u2019 he wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMashallah @anwaribrahim speaking facts,\u201d said the two-time World Cup winner with New Zealand in 2011 and 2015 who has been critical of the situation in Gaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anwar drew international spotlight when he criticised Western countries during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin on March 11, for their lack of action against Israel&#8217;s atrocities in Gaza. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The premier, who is on a six-day official visit to Germany, criticised Western countries for their lack of action against Israel\u2019s atrocities in Gaza, questioning the humanity of the West and condemned their \u201cselective\u201d and \u201cambivalent\u201d attitude towards the conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Acclaimed British-American journalist Mehdi Hasan said Anwar is now standing for the majority of the world\u2019s people in defending the right of Palestine people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have reached a point where the prime minister of Malaysia @anwaribrahim now speaks for the majority of the world\u2019s people and not a European or Western leader,\u201d he wrote in X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>French journalist Arnaud Betrand, @RnaudBertrand, shared the same clip of Anwar&#8217;s stance, describing it as &#8220;an immensely satisfying must-watch,&#8221; and praising his rebuke of a fellow speaker.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Betrand also shared Anwar\u2019s quote where the premier stated that solution cannot be achieved by being so one-sided, in terms of looking only at one particular issue and erase 60 years of atrocities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Renowned Swedish-Lebanese singer-songwriter Maher Zain, @MaherZain, expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, tweeting, &#8220;Thank you Mr Prime Minister @anwaribrahim&#8221; for his contribution to the discourse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Portuguese politician and author Bruno Macaes @MacaesBruno wrote on X:&nbsp;\u201cA stunning exchange in Berlin between Scholz and Anwar Ibrahim. We live in a new world. Germany just didn\u2019t get the memo.
