KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 7 (Bernama) — Malaysia Africa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MACCI) has planned several workshops and trade missions in different parts of Africa this year to boost business activities between Malaysia and Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
MACCI chairman Professor Dr Abdul Kabur Ibrahim said the objective of these workshops and trade missions is to enable Malaysian businessmen to explore opportunities in Africa and make investments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Abdul Kabur said at the moment there is not much involvement of Malaysian businesses in the African continent compared with other countries from Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMalaysian businesses are not really exploring Africa, and all this while, they just stick to traditional markets like the US (United States), Europe and China,” he told Bernama when met at the Africa Business Information Day here on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The forum attracted more than 100 participants, including representatives from foreign missions in Kuala Lumpur and business organisations from Ghana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Eswatini, Kenya, Uganda, Liberia, Nigeria, Madagascar and Guinea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Asked about the reason why Malaysian businesses are not exploring Africa, he said negative perception is one of the factors, and reported scam cases associated with African people may have also contributed to such perceptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He called on the Malaysian business community not to generalise, as there are 54 countries in Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
