KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 10 (NNN-Bernama) — Indonesia’s men’s singles player, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting is determined to strengthen his game ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ginting said the world’s biggest sporting event was his main focus this year so much so that he refused to think about the number of titles he could win this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“With a few months to go before the Olympics, I want to keep improving. I don’t want to think and burden myself (the amount of titles).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“ThIis should be the dream of champion (participating in the tournament) but I hope that by the time of the Olympics I will be stronger, continue to evaluate myself, sharpen my skills and improve my weaknesses,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said this after defeating Taiwan’s Su Li Yang, 21-18, 21-12 in the first round of the 2024 Malaysian Open at the Axiata Arena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The fourth-seeded player will face the Chinese representative, Lu Guang Zu, this Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Guang Zu came from behind to advance to the second round by upsetting local professional player, Lee Zii Jia, 16-21, 21-19, 21-15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the meantime, the number four player in the world also hopes to be listed among the seeded players in the Olympics later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Based on the Race to Paris qualifying ranking, Ginting is currently sixth with 71,891 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The qualification period for the 2024 Olympic Games that started last May will end this April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the qualification format, each country can be represented by a maximum of two singles players if they both rank in the top 16 and two doubles players if they both rank in the top eight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 2024 Olympic Games are scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11. \u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n
