{"id":247334,"date":"2023-12-06T12:01:03","date_gmt":"2023-12-06T04:01:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=247334"},"modified":"2023-12-06T12:01:04","modified_gmt":"2023-12-06T04:01:04","slug":"update-us-violence-man-who-lived-at-virginia-home-that-exploded-is-presumed-dead-police-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=247334","title":{"rendered":"Update US violence: Man who lived at Virginia home that exploded is presumed dead, police say"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/media-cldnry.s-nbcnews.com\/image\/upload\/t_fit-760w,f_auto,q_auto:best\/rockcms\/2023-12\/231205-james-yoo-se-523p-592f52.jpg\" alt=\"James Yoo.\"\/><figcaption>James Yoo.via LinkedIn<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>ARLINGTON (Virginia, US), Dec 6 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; The Virginia man whose house in suburban\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/explosion-rocks-virginia-neighborhood-police-serve-search-warrant-home-rcna128037\" target=\"_blank\">Washington, D.C., blew up<\/a>\u00a0had a history of making unsubstantiated complaints that he had been defrauded, and just days before the explosion he claimed on social media that his neighbors were spies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>James Yoo is presumed dead after the Arlington residence went up in a fireball as police officers tried to serve a search warrant, authorities said Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Police were called to the North Burlington Street home Monday after Yoo allegedly shot a flare gun at the property, officials said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He did not respond to requests to come outside, prompting officers to fire irritants into the residence, police said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The home would later explode, killing the man inside, Arlington County Police Chief Andy Penn said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cause of the explosion is still unknown and under investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yoo was no stranger to federal authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He \u201cpreviously communicated with the FBI via phone calls, online tips and letters over a number of years,\u201d said Dave Sundberg, the assistant director in charge of the FBI\u2019s Washington field office.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI would characterize these communications as primarily complaints about alleged frauds he believed were perpetrated against him,\u201d Sundberg said. \u201cThe nature of those communications did not lead to the FBI opening any investigations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a LinkedIn post Friday, Yoo appeared to accuse his neighbors of being spies. His LinkedIn and YouTube pages have been deleted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The home was briefly on the market in 2021, real estate records showed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>James and Stephanie Yoo were in an acrimonious divorce, according to local Realtor Daniel Boris, who was retained to sell the couple&#8217;s two Northern Virginia properties, in Arlington and McLean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pair eventually reached a settlement, allowing him to remain in the house, Boris said.
