KUALA LUMPUR, May 9 (Bernama) — Claims that Islam and Malays in the country face a bleak future\u00a0under the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government is\u00a0tactic\u00a0of the opposition to save \u00a0themselves from their misdeeds, said\u00a0Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the claims were initiated by the defeated party by finding the easiest issue (easy to influence) that is related to the Malays and Islam to distract the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis was started by the vanquished party, looking for targets to criticise harshly to get the people\u2019s support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEven if they are not good, they (the former government) did not do the necessary corrections, which are\u00a0now being done,\u201d\u00a0he said when interviewed in a special talk programme \u2018Malaysia Dinamik & Bersih\u2019 (A Clean & Dynamic Malaysia)\u00a0which was aired live for an hour on TV1 Wednesday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr Mahathir also questioned the actions of the opposition ((Barisan Nasional) which had not done anything for Islam, including eliminating opportunities for Malays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Instead, he said the opposition accused the new government of not defending the status of the Malays and Islam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey allowed cronies to profit and so on, that is the basis of the problems we face now, but they behave as if they are clean and innocent,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr Mahathir also stated that no issues would arise as to the Malays and Islam as long as PH was the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In fact, even outsiders admire and want to be like the Muslims in Malaysia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe find Arab visitors admiring and saying can we be like Malaysia?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey regard us as a good example, only the opposition does not think we (the government) mean well\u00a0 in relation to the\u00a0\u00a0Malays and Islam, they are looking for issues so that they can cover the harm they have done,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
