SINGAPORE, Sept 26 (NNN-Bernama) — The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team will carry out an on-site controlled disposal of a 100kg World War II aerial bomb Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The controlled disposal of the war relic will take place at a construction site along Upper Bukit Timah Road between 8am and 7pm, said the Singapore Police Force (SPF) on its website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to SPF, it was informed of a war relic discovered at a construction site along Upper Bukit Timah Road during excavation works on Sept 20 at 11.57am.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
SPF said the SAF EOD has determined that the war relic is a 100kg World War II aerial bomb and assessed that it is unsafe to move it, and therefore it must be disposed of on-site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the safety of the public, the Police will place a 200-metre cordon around the war relic during this period and road closure will also be imposed at the vicinity from 11 am.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The public will be alerted when roads are re-opened and it is safe to resume normal activities in the area, said the statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
SPF has engaged affected residents and other stakeholders and shophouses along Upper Bukit Timah Road, as well as the management of Greenridge Secondary School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey will have to temporarily vacate their buildings during the controlled disposal operation,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
SPF also advised the public not to be alarmed by the loud sound caused by the controlled disposal of the war relic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the road closures, access will only be granted to Police, SAF, emergency and authorised vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
SPF said it is working closely with the relevant authorities and the SAF EOD officers to ensure that the controlled disposal of the war relic will be carried out safely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
