{"id":231008,"date":"2023-07-31T09:11:42","date_gmt":"2023-07-31T01:11:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=231008"},"modified":"2023-07-31T09:11:42","modified_gmt":"2023-07-31T01:11:42","slug":"eight-dead-10-hospitalised-after-hurricane-in-russia-official","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=231008","title":{"rendered":"Eight dead, 10 hospitalised after hurricane in Russia: official"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/guardian.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/33QA6C7-highres.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2166795\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>MOSCOW, July 31 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; Eight people including three small children died in Russia when trees crashed into a lakeside campsite during a storm described as a &#8220;hurricane&#8221;, authorities said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several hundred people camped in a national park in Mari El, a Russian region located along the northern bank of the Volga River, when the storm struck on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Investigative Committee, which probes serious crimes, said in a statement that the bodies of seven people including three small children were found following what it called a &#8220;hurricane&#8221;, after debris was cleared at the campsite overnight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another person died in a hospital, the statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a separate statement, the emergencies ministry said that 29 people were injured and 16 hospitalised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Vacationers did not take into account the weather forecast,&#8221; the ministry said on messaging app Telegram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The campsite was located on the shores of Lake Yalchik in the Mari Chodra national park, and&nbsp;the Investigative Committee said a criminal probe was launched over the provision of services that do not meet safety requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, 10 people died and 76 were injured in the Privolzhsk federal district which includes the region of Mari El, the emergencies ministry said..<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;According to the latest information, eight people died in Mari El due to the hurricane that took place the day before,&#8221; said Yevgeny Maslov, mayor of the city of Yoshkar-Ola.
