{"id":230512,"date":"2023-07-27T09:15:55","date_gmt":"2023-07-27T01:15:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=230512"},"modified":"2023-07-27T09:15:56","modified_gmt":"2023-07-27T01:15:56","slug":"at-least-23-killed-in-senegal-bus-crash-pres-sall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=230512","title":{"rendered":"At least 23 killed in Senegal bus crash: Pres Sall"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/assets\/news_photos\/2023\/07\/26\/image-138488-1690377662.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"579\" height=\"325\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>DAKAR, July 27 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; Twenty-three people died when a\u00a0bus crashed in northern Senegal, President Macky Sall announced on social\u00a0media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I call for even more caution on the road&#8221;, Sall said in a message posted on\u00a0Twitter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier, a national fire brigade official and a first responder said that\u00a022 people had died and 52 others were injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The accident happened in the village of Ngeune Sarre in Louga region, they\u00a0said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They did not specify the cause or time of the accident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interior Minister Antoine Felix Abdoulaye Diome was on his way to the\u00a0accident site, a staffer said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In January, 19 people were killed and 24 injured in a collision in the same\u00a0area, near Louga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The previous week, around 40 people died in a bus collision in the centre of\u00a0Senegal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That tragedy, on Jan 8, prompted a wave of criticism against authorities\u00a0over the frequency of accidents on Senegal&#8217;s roads, and the lack of action\u00a0taken to prevent them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The government responded by announcing a long list of measures, including a\u00a0ban on overnight bus journeys.
