{"id":225756,"date":"2023-06-21T11:37:36","date_gmt":"2023-06-21T03:37:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=225756"},"modified":"2023-06-21T11:37:37","modified_gmt":"2023-06-21T03:37:37","slug":"kenya-eyes-trade-volume-increase-with-malaysia-via-coffee-tea-exports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=225756","title":{"rendered":"Kenya eyes trade volume increase with Malaysia via coffee, tea exports"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Nabilah Saleh<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR, June 21\u00a0(NNN-Bernama) &#8212; Kenya eyes bilateral ties expansion with Malaysia through exports of\u00a0agriculture productswhich includes coffee and tea, said Kenya&#8217;s High Commissioner to Malaysia Francis Ndegwa Muhoro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Muhoro said with conducive initiatives provided by his country, Malaysian business players should grab the market access opportunity in order to further expand bilateral trade and investments between the two nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are actively bringing to all the knowledge of our products, as well as to connect with more business key players and companies.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBecause the whole idea is to expand our Malaysia-Kenya diplomatic relations that indirectly will increase the trade volume which has been a bit low,\u201d&nbsp;the High Commissioner told Bernama when met at the \u201cKenya Exhibition &amp; Business Networking\u201d event held at the high commission here, Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He noted the coffee industry in the East African country comprised&nbsp;around 20 per cent of the country\u2019s export revenues and it is the country&#8217;s third-largest export commodity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking on specialties of Kenyan coffee and tea, Muhoro, who is also accredited to Brunei Darussalam said, \u201cMalaysians will need to try Kenyan tea. I personally want to tell them \u201cMake It Kenya\u201d when it comes to our coffee, tea, avocado and tourism, as a whole.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThough exports to Malaysia are still very low, there are a lot of opportunities that can be exploited by Malaysians and Kenyans and (also) Africans, in general.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe in the High Commission are&nbsp;here to provide support and facilitate collaboration between businesses and individuals from both countries so that together we can explore business potentials that exist in our partnerships,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a previous report, Bernama quoted the High Commissioner as saying that the bilateral trade growth was very positive as it increased by 81 per cent in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2021, Kenya&#8217;s exports to Malaysia amounted to US$6.70 million (Ksh. 2,026,144,634) while imports amounted to US$3.42 million (Ksh.10,333,864,165).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nairobi and Kuala Lumpur established diplomatic relations in 1965.
