{"id":224748,"date":"2023-06-12T12:39:46","date_gmt":"2023-06-12T04:39:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=224748"},"modified":"2023-06-12T12:39:47","modified_gmt":"2023-06-12T04:39:47","slug":"malaysian-ringgit-opens-lower-against-greenback-ahead-of-midweek-us-interest-rate-decision","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=224748","title":{"rendered":"Malaysian Ringgit Opens Lower Against Greenback Ahead Of Midweek Us Interest Rate Decision"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR, June 12 (NNN-Bernama) &#8212;\u00a0The ringgit opened lower against the US dollar Monday on\u00a0cautious sentiment ahead of the US Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting on June 13 and 14.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At 9.08 am, the local note was traded at 4.6155\/6185&nbsp;against&nbsp;the greenback compared with Friday\u2019s closing of 4.6115\/6160.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said the market consensus has estimated&nbsp;that the US Federal Reserve (Fed)&nbsp;might keep the Fed Funds Rate unchanged at 5.25 per cent.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to the meeting, the US inflation rate for May will&nbsp;be released with the headline Consumer Price Index (CPI) expected to moderate to 4.2 per cent&nbsp;in May from 4.9 per cent in the previous month while core CPI is anticipated to increase to&nbsp;5.6 per cent&nbsp;from 5.5 per cent&nbsp;in April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGiven the elevated levels of the inflation rate, market participants are cautious and by extension, the US dollar-ringgit pair would continue to range around the RM4.61 level today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhile the Fed might pause, the key question now is what is their latest&nbsp;assessment on the US economy given pockets of data points that are showing softening trend going forward.
