MANAGUA, March 13 (NNN-MERCOPRESS) — Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega chose to sever diplomatic ties with the Vatican after Pope Francis dubbed the Sandinista regime as a \u201cHitlerian dictatorship\u201d headed by a leader who would suffer from some sort of \u201cimbalance.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pope also praised imprisoned Nicaraguan Bishop Rolando Jos\u00e9 \u00c1lvarez, \u201ca very serious man\u201d who \u201cwanted to give his testimony and did not accept exile.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nicaragua has not had an ambassador to the Apostolic See since September 21, 2021, when Ortega canceled the appointment of Elliette Ortega Sotomayor. Thus, Ortega and his Vice President wife Rosario Murillo put an end to at least 115 years of diplomatic liaison between Nicaragua and the Holy See.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sandinista State thus joins a group of countries that do not maintain diplomatic relations with the Holy See, four of which have communist governments (Vietnam, North Korea, China, and Laos), 8 are under Muslim rule (Somalia, Oman, Mauritania, Maldives, Comoros Islands, Brunei, Afghanistan, and Saudi Arabia), and Bhutan is a Buddhist kingdom in Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ortega has repeatedly dubbed Nicaraguan bishops as \u201cterrorists\u201d and \u201ccoup plotters,\u201d accomplices of internal forces and international groups who seek \u201cto overthrow him.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Monsignor Rolando Jos\u00e9 \u00c1lvarez, bishop of Matagalpa and apostolic administrator of the Diocese of Estel\u00ed, is confined to a maximum security cell in the penitentiary system of La Modelo, in Managua. He has been sentenced to 26 years in prison for \u201ctreason to the homeland\u201d after refusing to be exiled together with 222 other Nicaraguan political prisoners who left for the United States, after which Ortega called him an \u201carrogant, unhinged madman.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Argentina’s faithful celebrated 10 years of Francis’ papacy with a mass Saturday in Luj\u00e1n celebrated by Father Pepe (Jos\u00e9 Di Paola) in the province of Buenos Aires under the slogan \u201cNot one kid, not one girl less because of drugs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Father Pepe is a member of the movement of \u201cvillero\u201d priests, so called because of their work focused on villas miserias (slums) that had strong backing from Jorge Bergoglio when he was archbishop of Buenos Aires before he was made pope on March 13, 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an interview published Friday in Buenos Aires’ La Naci\u00f3n, Pope Francis also insisted that \u201cgender ideology\u201d was among the \u201cmost dangerous ideological colonizations\u201d today. He also pointed out that \u201cgender ideology\u201d has created one of the most \u201cdangerous\u201d ideologies in recent history because of the way it blurs the lines between men and women.\u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n
