Photo courtesy of BERNAMA.<br><br><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>LABUAN, Malaysia, April 18 (NNN-BERNAMA) &#8212; The rotting remains of a mysterious creature that washed ashore on Membedai beach here on Wednesday (April 17) has left fisheries and veterinary officials baffled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A stunned jogger stumbled upon the 6-foot&nbsp;carcass (of dolphin-like sea creature)&nbsp;on the popular picnic coastline on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Veterinary Department Labuan director Dr Marysia James Abie said it was not possible to identify the cause of death as it was already decomposed and its head was slightly crushed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It was a juvenile creature and had been dead for more than 72 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;And I was quite surprised. This animal is rarely seen in our water, so to see it dead on the beach is very pathetic,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said based on preliminary investigation they found no plastics inside the stomach and no elements of killing as there were no injuries physically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are unable to determine whether the creature is a dolphin or a \u2018dugong\u2019,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Labuan Fisheries Department director Faizal Ibrahim Suhaili when contacted shared Dr Marysia\u2019s statement on the rare creature in Labuan waters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are still waiting for the full report from Veterinary Services Department on the findings, whether it has died at sea earlier, whether the creature is a dolphin,&nbsp;but it is sad to see the creature lying dead on our beach,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The creature was later buried near the same place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three dolphins were recently seen swimming off Rusukan Island waters and captured by tourists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211;NNN-BERNAMA<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LABUAN, Malaysia, April 18 (NNN-BERNAMA) &#8212; The rotting remains of a mysterious creature that washed ashore on Membedai beach here on Wednesday (April 17) has left fisheries and veterinary officials baffled.
