{"id":208334,"date":"2023-01-26T10:44:59","date_gmt":"2023-01-26T02:44:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=208334"},"modified":"2023-01-26T10:44:59","modified_gmt":"2023-01-26T02:44:59","slug":"malaysian-ringgit-extends-gains-against-greenback-at-opening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=208334","title":{"rendered":"Malaysian ringgit extends gains against greenback at opening"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Kisho Kumari Sucedaram<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 26\u00a0(NNN-Bernama)\u00a0&#8212;\u00a0The Malaysian ringgit opened higher against\u00a0the greenback for the third consecutive trading day on expectation that\u00a0the\u00a0US Federal Reserve\u2019s Open Market Committee (FOMC) would\u00a0downshift interest rate hikes from 50 basis points (bps) to 25 bps at\u00a0its meeting next week, said an analyst.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At 9&nbsp;am, the local note&nbsp;further appreciated to 4.2510\/2600&nbsp;against the US dollar&nbsp;from Wednesday\u2019s closing&nbsp;of 4.2575\/2625.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SPI Asset Management managing partner Stephen Innes said that on the back of another run of&nbsp;the US dollar weakness in G10 currencies, Asia foreign exchange (forex) would benefit as the broader forex&nbsp;market pre-positions&nbsp;for the interest rate downshift by FOMC,&nbsp;which is expected to help global risk sentiment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOn another note, the China market continues to lead the horse race, and this is supporting regional risk markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs such, local forex&nbsp;vendors are pricing in a strong ringgit&nbsp;on the expected return of Chinese travellers and continued improvement in international travel,\u201d he told Bernama.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, ActivTrades trader&nbsp;Dyogenes Rodrigues Diniz said Malaysia has been showing solid numbers with the unemployment rate at 3.6 per cent&nbsp;and inflation under control at 3.8 per cent, which supports the outlook for&nbsp;the local market as a good destination for foreign investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFrom a technical standpoint, US dollar\/ringgit&nbsp;is approaching an important support region at 4.2400.
