{"id":206054,"date":"2023-01-09T11:32:47","date_gmt":"2023-01-09T03:32:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=206054"},"modified":"2023-01-09T11:32:47","modified_gmt":"2023-01-09T03:32:47","slug":"bursa-malaysia-opens-higher-lifted-by-transportation-and-logistics-stocks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=206054","title":{"rendered":"Bursa Malaysia opens higher, lifted by transportation and logistics stocks"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 9 (Bernama) &#8212; Bursa Malaysia,&nbsp;the stock exchange of&nbsp;Malaysia<strong>,<\/strong>&nbsp;opened higher on Monday,&nbsp;with the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rising 0.31&nbsp;per cent to 1,485.14&nbsp;points on&nbsp;renewed buying interest, lifted&nbsp;mainly by gains in transportation and logistics stocks, said a dealer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At 9.05&nbsp;am,&nbsp;the benchmark FBM KLCI gained&nbsp;4.59&nbsp;points&nbsp;from Friday&#8217;s close of 1,480.55.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The market bellwether opened 4.01 points stronger at 1,484.56. &nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the broader market, gainers surpassed decliners&nbsp;229&nbsp;to 97,&nbsp;while 220&nbsp;counters were unchanged, 1,664&nbsp;untraded, and 19&nbsp;others suspended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Turnover amounted to 176.96&nbsp;million units worth RM66.35&nbsp;million (US$1=RM4.375).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd vice-president of equity research Thong Pak Leng noted&nbsp;Wall Street had also surged last Friday as the latest economic data suggested that inflation in the United States might&nbsp;be cooling off, leading to possibly less aggressive rate hikes from the US Federal Reserve (Fed)&nbsp;going forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The Dow&nbsp;Jones Industrial&nbsp;Average&nbsp;jumped 700 points while the Nasdaq added 264 points with the US 10-year yield easing to the 3.56 per cent&nbsp;level,&#8221;&nbsp;he told Bernama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over in Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index closed 60 points lower but still capped a brilliant performance for the week on improving confidence buoyed by economic-friendly moves from the Chinese government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the home front, Thong reckons that&nbsp;stock accumulation would&nbsp;continue with the&nbsp;FBM KLCI index expected to trend between the 1,480 and&nbsp;1,495 range today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Although we anticipate buying to be broad-based, we reckon buying interest&nbsp;should remain on the construction and tourism-related&nbsp;sectors today,&#8221; he added.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the heavyweights, MISC Bhd gained seven sen to RM7.28 while IOI Corporation Bhd and Genting Malaysia Bhd&nbsp;rose five sen each to RM3.96 and RM2.81 respectively.&nbsp;PPB Group Bhd added&nbsp;two sen to RM17.70 and Sime Darby Plantation Bhd improved three sen to RM4.40.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for&nbsp;the actives, CSH Alliance Bhd went up half-a-sen to five sen, Nylex (M) Bhd climbed 3.5 sen to 41 sen and&nbsp;DS Sigma Holdings ticked up two sen to 64 sen.
