{"id":195172,"date":"2022-10-12T13:34:26","date_gmt":"2022-10-12T05:34:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=195172"},"modified":"2022-10-12T13:34:27","modified_gmt":"2022-10-12T05:34:27","slug":"malaysias-ipi-rises-by-13-6-pct-in-august-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=195172","title":{"rendered":"Malaysia&#8217;s IPI rises by 13.6 pct in August 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 12 (NNN-Bernama) &#8212;\u00a0Malaysia&#8217;s Industrial Production Index (IPI) soared 13.6 per cent in August 2022\u00a0as compared to the same month of the previous year, the Department of Statistics (DoSM) said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement Wednesday, it said the expansion of IPI&nbsp;was contributed by the manufacturing (15.2 per cent), electricity (10 per cent) and mining (eight per cent) sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe main subsectors that contributed to the growth of the manufacturing sector in&nbsp;August 2022 were electrical and electronics products (19.2 per cent), transport equipment and other manufacture&nbsp;products (53.6 per cent) and non-metallic mineral products, basic metal and fabricated metal products (13.6 per cent),\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DoSM said the growth in the mining sector was spearheaded by the increment of eight per cent in the natural gas index and crude oil and condensate index respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It said the manufacturing sector\u2019s growth was driven by domestic-oriented industries (22.5 per cent) and export-oriented industries (12.4 per cent).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe&nbsp;growth of the domestic-oriented industry was attributed to the&nbsp;manufacture of tobacco products and manufacture of motor vehicles,&nbsp;trailers and semi-trailers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMeanwhile, the increase in export-oriented&nbsp;industries was mainly supported by the manufacture of computer,&nbsp;electronics and&nbsp;optical products and manufacture of coke and&nbsp;refined&nbsp;petroleum products,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It said the manufacturing sector\u2019s performance was&nbsp;also in line with the encouraging growth of exports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, the IPI in the period of January to August 2022 recorded an expansion of&nbsp;7.5 per cent as compared to the same period of the previous year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis&nbsp;increment was supported by the manufacturing index (9.6 per cent), electricity&nbsp;index (6.5 per cent) and mining index (0.2 per cent),\u201d DoSM added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a separate statement,&nbsp;DoSM said&nbsp;Malaysia\u2019s manufacturing sales value in August&nbsp;2022 expanded 24.4&nbsp;per cent to RM157.4&nbsp;billion (US$33.6 billion).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The better performance was&nbsp;driven by the subsectors of electrical and electronics (E&amp;E), petroleum, chemicals, rubber and plastics as well as food, beverage&nbsp;and tobacco products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The E&amp;E products subsector contributed 25.8&nbsp;per cent to the sales value;&nbsp;petroleum, chemicals, rubber and plastic products subsector (27.6&nbsp;per cent), and the food, beverage&nbsp;and tobacco&nbsp;products subsector (18.4 per cent), according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The total number of employees engaged in the manufacturing sector in August&nbsp;2022 was 2.31 million persons, an increase of&nbsp;4.3&nbsp;per cent compared to 2.2 million persons in August&nbsp;2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe increment was contributed by the E&amp;E products (6.9&nbsp;per cent), wood, furniture, paper products and printing (4.9&nbsp;per cent) and non-metallic mineral products, basic metal and fabricated metal products (3.2&nbsp;per cent),\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8212; NNN-BERNAMA<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 12 (NNN-Bernama) &#8212;\u00a0Malaysia&#8217;s Industrial Production Index (IPI) soared 13.6 per cent in August 2022\u00a0as compared to the same month of the previous year, the Department of Statistics (DoSM) said.
