File photo courtesy of  Eskinder Debebe\/UN Security Council\/dpa<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), April 4 (NNN-BERNAMA) &#8212; The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA)\u00a0on Tuesday adopted without a vote the Malaysia-sponsored resolution &#8216;Combating Terrorism and Other Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A statement from Malaysia&#8217;s Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra) on Thursday said the  resolution\u00a0among others\u00a0condemned in the strongest terms the heinous and cowardly terrorist attack aimed at Muslim worshipers in Christchurch, New Zealand on March 15 (2019).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also deplored all acts of violence against persons on the basis of their religion or beliefs including all attacks on religious places; and called for strengthened international efforts to foster a global dialogue on the promotion of a culture of tolerance and peace based on respect for human rights and the diversity of religions and beliefs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Malaysia, alongside Indonesia, Kuwait, Pakistan, Qatar and Turkey sponsored the resolution while another 36 member states co-sponsored it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wisma Putra in the statement said Malaysia, following the adoption of the UNGA resolution, asserted that acts of terror and violence based on religion or beliefs must be rejected as a whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Malaysia also called on all member states to earnestly promote inter-cultural and interfaith dialogue in promoting peace, moderation and religious tolerance, it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wisma Putra said the adoption of the UNGA resolution demonstrated that the global community was united in condemning acts of terrorism that target individuals, including persons belonging to religious minorities; and based on or in the name of religion or belief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Malaysia remains resolute in combating and preventing acts of terror and violence based on religion or belief,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wisma Putra said Malaysia\u2019s constructive engagement that led to the adoption of the resolution was in line with the Foreign Policy Framework of the new Malaysia vis-\u00e0-vis proactive in foreign policy conduct that requires foreign policy practitioners to engage more actively in the processes to shape opinions and build consensus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211;NNN-BERNAMA<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), April 4 (NNN-BERNAMA) &#8212; The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA)\u00a0on Tuesday adopted without a vote the Malaysia-sponsored resolution &#8216;Combating Terrorism and Other Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief&#8217;.
