KUALA LUMPUR, April 7 (NNN-Bernama) —\u00a0Malaysia\u2019s new COVID-19\u00a0cases on Wednesday remained below the 15,000 mark for five consecutive days but showed a slight increase to\u00a012,105 from\u00a012,017 on Tuesday,\u00a0bringing the cumulative total of COVID-19 cases to\u00a04,280,591.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said recovered cases exceeded the number of new infections when 21,029 recoveries were reported, bringing the cumulative number of recoveries to 4,083,183.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOf the new cases, 564 cases were admitted to hospitals with 221 cases or 39.2 per cent were in categories three, four and five, while 343 cases or 60.8 per cent were in categories one and two,\u201d he said in a statement Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the number of COVID-19 patients requiring respiratory support decreased to 122, with the ventilator usage rate being 14 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The national COVID-19 infectivity rate or Rt remained at 0.86 on Wedesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, according to the Health Ministry\u2019s GitHub portal, a total of 32 deaths due to COVID-19 were reported in the country on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Based on the COVIDNOW website, a total of 44,376 children aged between five and 11 years in Malaysia have completed the two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine under the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme For Children (PICKids).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A total of 1,353,370 children in the same group or 38.1 per cent of their population have received at least one dose of the vaccine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For adolescents aged between 12 and 17, a total of 2,855,208 individuals or 91.8 per cent have completed the vaccination and 2,953,452 individuals or 95 per cent have received the first dose of the vaccine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As for the adult population, a total of 15,888,368 individuals or 67.5 per cent of their population have received the booster dose, while 22,955,102 individuals or 97.6 per cent have completed both doses of the vaccination and 23,232,340 or 98.8 per cent have received one dose of the vaccine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
