KUALA LUMPUR, April 5 (NNN-Bernama) — There were more recoveries than new COVID-19 infections in Malaysia on Monday with 23,302 recovered cases, bringing the cumulative figure for recoveries to 4,041,723, said Health director-general\u00a0Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said new cases continued their downtrend below the 15,000 mark when 10,002 daily cases were reported, bringing cumulative total to 4,256,469 since the outbreak early last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said 5,495 or 54.94 per cent of the new cases are in category one, 4,418 cases or 44.17 per cent are in category two, 30 cases (0.30 per cent) in category three, 33 cases (0.33 per cent) in category four, and 26 cases (0.26 per cent) in category five.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOf the new cases, 9,904 are local infections and 98 are imported cases. A total of 236 cases need treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 140 cases require ventilators,\u201d he said in a statement Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the usage of health facilities dedicated to COVID-19 cases, Dr Noor Hisham said only two states exceeded 50 per cent in bed occupancy for critical or ICU cases, with Kuala Lumpur at 60 per cent and Perlis, 55 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The national COVID-19 infectivity rate or Rt value is 0.86.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, according to the Health Ministry\u2019s GitHub portal, a total of 28 deaths due to COVID-19 were reported in the country Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme For Children (PICKids), a total of 22,476 children aged between five and 11 years in Malaysia have completed the two doses of the vaccine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Based on the COVIDNOW website, a total of 1,351,441 children in the same group or 38 per cent of their population have received at least one dose of the vaccine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As for the adult population, a total of 15,862,983 individuals or 67.4 per cent of their population have received the booster dose, while 22,955,496 individuals or 97.6 per cent have completed both doses of the vaccination and 23,231,190 or 98.8 per cent have received one dose of the vaccine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For adolescents aged between 12 and 17, a total of 2,854,727 individuals or 91.8 per cent have completed the vaccination and 2,949,995 individuals or 94.9 per cent have received the first dose of the vaccine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
