{"id":170120,"date":"2022-03-31T15:02:35","date_gmt":"2022-03-31T07:02:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=170120"},"modified":"2022-03-31T15:02:35","modified_gmt":"2022-03-31T07:02:35","slug":"farm-trade-malaysia-on-track-to-export-more-sustainable-palm-oil-into-mena-region","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=170120","title":{"rendered":"Farm Trade: Malaysia on track to export more sustainable palm oil into MENA region"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR, March 31 (NNN-Bernama) &#8212;\u00a0Exports of Malaysian sustainable palm oil into the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region will continue to grow in tandem with the increasing population of the region, said consulting and trading firm Farm Trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its founder Sandeep Singh&nbsp;said many multinational companies have set their footprints in the region and have started to import sustainable flagship of palm oil into the region in a big&nbsp;way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis volume, I believe, will keep on increasing at a much faster rate compared to any other region.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTherefore, we will see a good growth of certified Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO)&nbsp;and Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil&nbsp;(in this market),\u201d he said during his presentation at the Palm Oil Internet Seminar (Pointers) Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sandeep went on to say that Malaysia should also focus on value-added sales and have a continual, non-disruptive shipment of value-added products with seamless supply chains to buyers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He encouraged the&nbsp;development of more partnerships, destination storage, and stock and sales plan&nbsp;on a long-term basis for the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere should be more free trade agreements, government-to-government trade for food security and also&nbsp;barter trades with a few countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe benefits of the MENA regional integration include growth spillovers, larger markets and production scale economies,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sandeep also said the region is and will remain one of the most import-dependent in the world in the medium and long term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTherefore, technological change needs to be much faster to prevent food insecurity figures from worsening in the near term,\u201d he said, adding that the high population growth&nbsp;rates, with a population growth of 1.7 per cent in 2020 across the MENA region, is the second-fastest globally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, 43 MSPO-certified companies have showcased their products to Lulu Group International earlier this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The conglomerate will select some of the companies to help them expand their&nbsp;market in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as well as penetrate other countries including India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This follows the memorandum of understanding signed between the Malaysian Palm Oil Council&nbsp;and Lulu Group during the recent World Expo 2020 in Dubai, as well as the&nbsp;Trade and Investment Mission led by Senior Minister and Minister of International Trade and Industry Mohamed Azmin Ali last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The MENA region comprises 25 countries with a population of almost 700 million or about 10 per cent of the world\u2019s population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It consumes approximately 15 million tonnes of various oils and fats.
