{"id":16381,"date":"2019-03-26T15:52:18","date_gmt":"2019-03-26T07:52:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=16381"},"modified":"2019-03-26T16:00:39","modified_gmt":"2019-03-26T08:00:39","slug":"britons-have-mixed-feelings-on-mays-future-as-pm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=16381","title":{"rendered":"Britons have mixed feelings on May&#8217;s future as PM"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>LONDON, March 26 (NNN-BERNAMA-ANADOLU) &#8212; With the fate of Brexit and the UK\u00a0set to be revealed in the next two weeks, Prime Minister Theresa May is clinging to the premiership, reported Anadolu Agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether she will remain in power remains to be seen, and people on the street have mixed opinions on her way of handling Brexit and her leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think she has gone as far as she can,\u201d said David Johnson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cI think we should have had a Brexiteer in the first place because May was a Remainer. She has chosen Remainers in the cabinet,\u201d Johnson told Anadolu Agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Johnson said the problem with May was trying to maintain some sort of balance between Remainers and Brexiteers in the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is like throwing 20 cats and 20 dogs in a cage and expecting them to agree and be nice to each other, and it is not happening,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Johnson said he believes that if the UK&nbsp;remains in the European Union, British democracy would be destroyed and \u201cchaos\u201d would follow. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elle, who declined to give her last name, said responsibility for the mess in Britain should be shared by the entire parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cParliament needs to take decisions. It is not down to just one person,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am not happy at all with the way this has been handled. The main thing I am not happy about is the fact that there is not enough consultation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She went on to say: &#8220;May said so many times that she knew what people think.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am angry and distressed. And I am not alone&#8230;Our voice is not being heard, and I don\u2019t feel represented enough.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Steve Bray, a political activist who has been dubbed \u201cMr. Stop Brexit\u201d as he has been shouting \u2018Stop Brexit!\u2019 on College Green opposite the Houses of Parliament, thinks May should continue as prime minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBetter the devil you know, to be honest,\u201d he said, speaking to Anadolu Agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t want a Brexiteer in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhatever happens, this is the worst government this country has ever had.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are absolutely never leaving the EU,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>May\u2019s popularity within her own party and with the government\u2019s de facto partner, Northern Ireland\u2019s Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), has plummeted after a series of failures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After calling a snap election last year, May lost the parliamentary majority for her party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She also failed to secure her Brexit deal with historic defeats in two votes in the House of Commons.
