{"id":16293,"date":"2019-03-26T12:20:53","date_gmt":"2019-03-26T04:20:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=16293"},"modified":"2019-03-26T12:20:55","modified_gmt":"2019-03-26T04:20:55","slug":"us-approves-us3-8b-f-16-sale-to-morocco","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=16293","title":{"rendered":"US approves US$3.8b F-16 sale to Morocco"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p> <br>WASHINGTON, March 26 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; The United States has approved the sale of 25 F-16 fighter aircraft to Morocco for US$3.8 billion, the State Department announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides the new Block 70\/72 F-16s, equipped with state of the art electronic systems and weaponry, Washington also approved the modernisation of 23 F-16s already in the Moroccan air force fleet, for US$983 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The State Department said the sale would not affect the balance of forces in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It can still be blocked by the US Congress, which has 30 days to raise any objections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than 4,500 of the Lockheed Martin-built F-16s have been delivered since 1978.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is gradually being replaced by the stealth F-35 fighters but more than 3,000 of F-16s are still in use in 25 countries, thanks to constant upgrades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Moroccan military ordered 24 F-16s in 2008.
