MOSCOW, March 26 (NN-AGENCIES) \u2013 Russia reiterated denials that Moscow interfered in the 2016 US presidential election after Special Counsel Robert Mueller\u2019s report found conclusive evidence of Russian meddling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists he had not seen the report but Russia\u2019s \u201cprincipled position on this matter is well known: our country has not interfered in the domestic affairs of other countries,
including the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Peskov insisted \u201cthe accusations of interference\u2026 that are still being made against Russia, we as before consider to be baseless.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mueller\u2019s nearly two-year investigation found Russia carried out a coordinated campaign of disinformation and hacked emails from Hillary Clinton\u2019s election team. The report however did not find that Donald Trump\u2019s campaign team colluded with Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement, the Russian foreign ministry said that Mueller\u2019s report \u201csimply could not have been different.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The United States has expended \u201ccolossal efforts\u201d and a significant amount of taxpayers\u2019 money to \u201crefute an obvious falsehood,\u201d the ministry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Moscow said it hoped Washington would eventually acknowledge that reports of Russian meddling were nothing but \u201cmalicious slander\u201d conjured up for use in Washington\u2019s power struggles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAnd probably then we will be able to close the door on this matter,\u201d the foreign ministry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere\u2019s a chance to start a lot again from zero in our relations, but whether Trump will take the risk is still under question. We, of course, are ready,\u201d Konstantin Kosachev, foreign affairs committee chair in the upper
house of parliament, wrote on Facebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The foreign affairs chief in the lower house, Leonid Slutsky, told journalists the report\u2019s findings \u201care hardly capable of changing anything immediately in the dialogue between Russia and the US,\u201d RIA Novosti state news agency reported. — NNN-AGENCIES
