{"id":154022,"date":"2021-12-01T10:10:44","date_gmt":"2021-12-01T02:10:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=154022"},"modified":"2021-12-01T10:10:44","modified_gmt":"2021-12-01T02:10:44","slug":"azerbaijan-says-14-dead-in-military-helicopter-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=154022","title":{"rendered":"Azerbaijan says 14 dead in military helicopter crash"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/assets\/news_photos\/2021\/11\/30\/image-30958-1638278400.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0 BAKU, Dec 1 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; Fourteen people died in an Azerbaijani military helicopter crash which went down in the east of the Caucasus country during a training flight, officials said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&#8220;Fourteen people died and two more were wounded as a result of a state border service helicopter crash,&#8221; the ex-Soviet republic&#8217;s frontier guard said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;It said all of the victims were military servicemen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0Earlier Tuesday, the country&#8217;s border service and prosecutor general said in a joint statement that &#8220;a military helicopter belonging to Azerbaijan&#8217;s state border service crashed at Garakheybat airfield in the Khyzy region at approximately 10:40 am (GMT 0640) while conducting a training flight.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;They said an investigation was underway into the accident&#8217;s causes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;The incident came two weeks after Azerbaijan and neighbouring Armenia engaged in the worst fighting along their shared border since going to war last year over the contested Nagorno-Karabakh region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp; &nbsp;The six-week war claimed more than 6,500 lives and ended in November 2020 with a Russian-brokered ceasefire. The deal saw Yerevan cede swathes of territory that it had controlled for decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0 \u00a0Six Armenian troops and seven Azerbaijani soldiers were killed on Nov 16 in a flare-up in fighting.
