Dr Titilayo Goncalves, permanent secretary of the health ministry said 20 people were brought out from the wreckage and they were receiving treatment from various hospitals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other emergency services that joined in the rescue bid were LASG FIRE, LASAMBUS, NEMA, FED FIRE, Nigeria Police, NSCDC, LNSC and the RED CROSS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The four-storey building near Massey Children Hospital collapsed this morning while children were having classes on the third floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Governor Akinwunmi Ambode raced to the scene and was briefed by LASEMA officials on ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parents of the pupils jammed the site of the incident wailing and shouting, expecting to see their children brought out alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NAN correspondent who was at the scene of the incident reports that the building collapsed about 10: am on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n\nAccording to some residents of the area, the building was earlier marked for demolition before it was renovated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the parents said her son was rescued by the neighbours who quickly ran to the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" src=\"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/nigeria-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13987\" srcset=\"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/nigeria-3.jpg 600w, http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/nigeria-3-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/nigeria-3-598x450.jpg 598w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption> <br><em>Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, right, being briefed at the site of building collapse<\/em> <\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy son was just lucky for him to have been rescued alive. The neighbours ran to the building immediately it collapsed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPeople in the neighbourhood started the rescue before the state rescue team arrived. I sincerely thank God and the people in the area,\u201dshe said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A witness who pleaded anonymity said staff of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), came for inspection of the building regularly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis building was marked for demolition. We kept seeing people from Alausa coming to inspect the building, and the next thing we saw was the same building undergoing renovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe state regulatory body is not strict with its policies. Such calamity would have been avoided if the right action was taken by demolishing the building.
