MANILA, March 8 (NNN-BERNAMA) —\u00a0Malaysia and the Philippines expect to intensify two-way trade and investments to sustain their economic prosperity, said Philippine\u00a0President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Disclosing the points of discussions with visiting Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to Manila, Duterte said the two leaders had spoken on various issues to further expand their mutual interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking at a joint press conference\u00a0here Thursday, Duterte said both countries, two of Asia’s growth engines, were committed to intensifying bilateral trade and investments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Conscious of (the) synergy and dynamism of our private sectors, our governments have agreed to further enhance trade, investment and infrastructure development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI thanked the Prime Minister for Malaysia\u2019s robust support for our \u2018Build Build Build\u2019 programme. This includes Malaysian companies\u2019 active role in the development of the sustainable and smart metropolis of Clark Green City,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Duterte, he was also happy to share with Dr Mahathir the great strides the Philippines had achieved towards securing just and lasting peace in Mindanao.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe road leading to the historic transition to the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region was paved in large part by the support of our international partners. Malaysia occupies a prominent role in this roster of friends. The good work will have to continue,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Duterte also thanked the Dr Mahathir for Malaysia\u2019s unrelenting support for development in the south, adding that Mindanao\u2019s progress was the key for the Philippines and the BIMP-EAGA sub-region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI have personally seen significant headway that spurred and sustained economic communities in the BIMP-EAGA sub-region through active socio-cultural and economic interchange across borders and enhanced cooperation between customs, immigration, quarantine and security matters.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The two leaders also pledged to ramp up cooperation to address security issues, particularly on terrorism, piracy and transnational crimes, including the fight against the illegal drug trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
