{"id":121056,"date":"2021-05-03T08:14:03","date_gmt":"2021-05-03T00:14:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=121056"},"modified":"2021-05-03T08:14:09","modified_gmt":"2021-05-03T00:14:09","slug":"north-korea-dismisses-spurious-us-diplomacy-state-media","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=121056","title":{"rendered":"North Korea dismisses \u2018spurious\u2019 US diplomacy: state media"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Untitled-1.jpg\"><img src=\"http:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Untitled-1.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>PYONGYANG\/WASHINGTON, May 3 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; North Korea branded US diplomacy \u201cspurious\u201d on Sunday, dismissing the idea of talks with Washington a day after the Biden administration said it was open to diplomatic negotiations on denuclearization, state media reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Diplomacy was a \u201cspurious signboard\u201d for the United States to \u201ccover up its hostile acts,\u201d the North Korean foreign ministry said in a statement run by the KCNA news agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also warned President Joe Biden that he had made a \u201cbig blunder\u201d with his \u201coutdated\u201d stance towards the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a separate statement also run by KCNA, the foreign ministry accused Biden of insulting Kim Jong-Un, and added: \u201cWe have warned the US sufficiently enough to understand that it will get hurt if it provokes us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Biden had said in his first address as president to Congress on Wednesday that he would use \u201cdiplomacy as well as stern deterrence\u201d to contain North Korea\u2019s nuclear ambitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The White House said that its goal remains \u201cthe complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>US policy will see \u201ca calibrated, practical approach that is open to and will explore diplomacy\u201d with North Korea, Biden\u2019s press secretary Jen Pskai told reporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Psaki gave little indication of what kind of diplomatic initiative this could entail, but suggested that Biden had learned from the experience of previous administrations, who have struggled for decades to deal with the dictatorship in North Korea or, in recent years, its growing nuclear arsenal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said Washington would not \u201cfocus on achieving a grand bargain,\u201d apparently referring to the kind of dramatic over-arching deal that former president Donald Trump initially suggested was possible when he met with North Korea\u2019s leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Neither would the White House follow the more standoff approach called \u201cstrategic patience,\u201d espoused by Barack Obama, Psaki said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In April, South Korean President Moon Jae-in, who is due to visit the White House on May 21, urged Biden to engage directly with Kim on denuclearization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moon told the newspaper he favored \u201ctop-down diplomacy.\u201d &#8212; NNN-AGENCIES<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PYONGYANG\/WASHINGTON, May 3 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; North Korea branded US diplomacy \u201cspurious\u201d on Sunday, dismissing the idea of talks with Washington a day after the Biden administration said it was open to diplomatic negotiations on denuclearization, state media reported.
