{"id":120573,"date":"2021-04-28T13:01:26","date_gmt":"2021-04-28T05:01:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=120573"},"modified":"2021-04-28T13:01:28","modified_gmt":"2021-04-28T05:01:28","slug":"us-shooting-florida-toddler-shot-and-killed-at-his-own-birthday-party-a-woman-also-injured","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=120573","title":{"rendered":"US shooting: Florida toddler shot and killed at his own birthday party; a woman also injured"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/cbsnews2.cbsistatic.com\/hub\/i\/r\/2021\/04\/27\/e25d36d2-01c0-447f-825b-f63154b7dc9a\/thumbnail\/620x349\/aa45c71fa74339f8a76419e43d2d7368\/elijah-lafrance.jpg#\" alt=\"elijah-lafrance.jpg \"\/><figcaption>Elijah LaFrance, 3, was shot and killed at his birthday party in Miami-Dade County, Florida<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>MIAMI, April 28 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; Police in Florida were investigating the murder of a three-year-old boy who was shot and killed at his own birthday party on Saturday evening (Apr 24).\u00a0<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elijah LaFrance was probably struck by a stray bullet when &#8220;unknown subjects armed with various semi-automatic weapons, to include rifles,\u00a0arrived on the scene and began discharging the firearms towards the residence&#8221; as the child&#8217;s family cleaned up after the party in a Miami suburb, Miami-Dade police said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The toddler was taken to the hospital, where he &#8220;succumbed to his injuries&#8221;, according to police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Authorities were offering a US$15,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of suspects in the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elijah, who would have turned four in a few days, was celebrating his birthday with another child, his family told local media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Videos from the party show the children playing in a pool at the house, surrounded by colourful balloons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Officers arrived on the scene after being alerted through the ShotSpotter system, a technology that listens for gunshots and is installed throughout nearly 100 American cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A 21-year-old woman was also shot in the incident.
