{"id":119699,"date":"2021-04-21T14:25:07","date_gmt":"2021-04-21T06:25:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=119699"},"modified":"2021-04-21T14:25:11","modified_gmt":"2021-04-21T06:25:11","slug":"arab-league-un-eu-and-au-demand-foreign-forces-leave-libya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=119699","title":{"rendered":"Arab League, UN, EU and AU demand foreign forces leave Libya"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Arab-League-UN-EU-and-AU-demand-foreign-forces-leave-Libya.jpg\"><img src=\"http:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Arab-League-UN-EU-and-AU-demand-foreign-forces-leave-Libya.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>UNITED NATIONS, April 21 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; The Arab League, United Nations, European Union and the African Union demanded an immediate withdrawal of all foreign forces from Libya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement after a videoconference by its leaders, the so-called \u201cLibya Quartet\u201d demanded \u201cfull compliance with the arms embargo and the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from the entirety of Libya\u2019s territory.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The much-violated arms embargo has been in place since 2011, when an uprising toppled longtime Libyan dictator Moamer Kadhafi during the regional upheaval known as the Arab Spring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The UN estimates that some 20,000 foreign fighters, mainly troops from Turkey and mercenaries from Russia, Syria, Chad and Sudan, are currently deployed in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In recent weeks, the possible departure of Syrian mercenaries has been raised and, this weekend, N\u2019Djamena mentioned the arrival in Chad from Libya of several hundred Chadian mercenaries who may have contributed to the fighting that led to the death of President Idriss Deby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During its meeting, the Libya Quartet \u201ccondemned the continued violations of the UN arms embargo and emphasized that all external military intervention in Libya is unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also called for \u201cthe sustained implementation of measures to fully identify and dismantle these groups.\u201d &#8212; NNN-AGENCIES<br><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UNITED NATIONS, April 21 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; The Arab League, United Nations, European Union and the African Union demanded an immediate withdrawal of all foreign forces from Libya.
