{"id":118412,"date":"2021-04-13T14:01:54","date_gmt":"2021-04-13T06:01:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=118412"},"modified":"2021-04-13T14:01:55","modified_gmt":"2021-04-13T06:01:55","slug":"g7-urges-russia-to-stop-provocations-de-escalate-on-ukraine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=118412","title":{"rendered":"G7 urges Russia to stop \u2018provocations,\u2019 de-escalate on Ukraine"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/G7-urges-Russia-to-stop-provocations-de-escalate-on-Ukraine.jpg\"><img src=\"http:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/G7-urges-Russia-to-stop-provocations-de-escalate-on-Ukraine.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>PARIS, April 13 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; The G7 foreign ministers called on Russia to stop its \u201cprovocations\u201d and \u201cde-escalate tensions\u201d following its troop build-up on the border with Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ministers from the Group of Seven leading industrialised countries \u201care deeply concerned by the large ongoing build-up of Russian military forces on Ukraine\u2019s borders and in illegally-annexed Crimea,\u201d they said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese large-scale troop movements, without prior notification, represent threatening and destabilising activities,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe call on Russia to cease its provocations and to immediately de-escalate tensions in line with its international obligations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The G7 \u2014 the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Canada \u2014 also urged Russia to uphold international \u201cprinciples and commitments that it has signed up to on transparency of military movements\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ministers met amid a surge in diplomatic activity prompted by concerns that the years-long conflict in eastern Ukraine could escalate sharply as clashes with pro-Russian separatists have surged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe reaffirm our unwavering support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognised borders,\u201d the G7 said. \u201cWe support Ukraine\u2019s posture of restraint.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ukraine has accused Russia of amassing thousands of military personnel on its northern and eastern borders as well as on the annexed Crimean peninsula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Kremlin has not denied the troop movements but insisted that Moscow does not intend to threaten anyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The White House this week said the number of Russian troops at the border with Ukraine was now greater than at any time since 2014, when the conflict erupted after Russia\u2019s annexation of Crimea from Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fighting subsided in 2020 as a ceasefire agreement took hold last July, but clashes have picked up again since the start of the year, with each side blaming the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Thursday Ukraine\u2019s President Volodymyr Zelensky visited the eastern frontline, speaking with soldiers in the trenches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 2014, the conflict in Ukraine\u2019s east has claimed more than 13,000 lives and displaced many others, while negotiations for a lasting peace deal have stalled. &#8212; NNN-AGENCIES<br><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PARIS, April 13 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; The G7 foreign ministers called on Russia to stop its \u201cprovocations\u201d and \u201cde-escalate tensions\u201d following its troop build-up on the border with Ukraine.
