{"id":118380,"date":"2021-04-13T12:51:30","date_gmt":"2021-04-13T04:51:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=118380"},"modified":"2021-04-13T12:51:31","modified_gmt":"2021-04-13T04:51:31","slug":"us-cuts-deal-with-mexico-honduras-guatemala-on-border-security","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=118380","title":{"rendered":"US cuts deal with Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala on border security"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/US-cuts-deal-with-Mexico-Honduras-Guatemala-on-border-security.jpg\"><img src=\"http:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/US-cuts-deal-with-Mexico-Honduras-Guatemala-on-border-security.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>WASHINGTON, April 13 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; The United States has cut a deal for Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala to reinforce their borders in a bid to quash a wave of migration to the United States, the White House said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe objective is to make it more difficult to make the journey and make crossing the borders more difficult,\u201d White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The three countries will \u201cincrease law enforcement at the border to deter the travel.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The surge in illegal immigrants and asylum seekers \u2014 many of them children hoping to be united with families already inside the United States \u2014 has become a major stumbling block for President Joe Biden\u2019s new administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Biden took office vowing to pursue humane policies toward asylum seekers but his government is widely seen as struggling to keep control of the situation as the influx overwhelms existing border infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The idea of getting countries to the south of the United States to deploy their military to stop migrants before they ever reach the US border was at the center of Donald Trump\u2019s tough crackdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Biden advisor Tyler Moran told MSNBC news on Monday that the agreements with the governments would mean \u201cmore troops on their own border.
