{"id":117065,"date":"2021-04-03T14:40:16","date_gmt":"2021-04-03T06:40:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=117065"},"modified":"2021-04-03T14:40:18","modified_gmt":"2021-04-03T06:40:18","slug":"covid-19-austria-slovenia-to-help-czechs-with-vaccines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=117065","title":{"rendered":"Covid-19: Austria, Slovenia to help Czechs with vaccines"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/First-vaccines-arrive-in-Covid-hit-Papua-New-Guinea.jpg\"><img src=\"http:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/First-vaccines-arrive-in-Covid-hit-Papua-New-Guinea.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>VIENNA, April 3 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; Austria and Slovenia promised thousands of coronavirus vaccine doses for the Czech Republic after coming under fire from Brussels for refusing to help EU partners in greater need of jabs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe will help the Czech Republic bilaterally with 30,000 doses,\u201d Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Later his Slovenian counterpart Janez Jansa also pledged 10,000 doses for the Czech Republic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA year ago, at the beginning of the epidemic when we had no protection gear, the Czech Republic was the first to help us and sent us 1.5 million masks and other gear,\u201d Jansa said in a tweet, adding: \u201cWe said we will never forget it and we have not.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Thursday, Kurz had been accused of showing \u201ca lack of solidarity\u201d by other EU countries for insisting that Austria receive its full quota of vaccines out of a shipment of 10 million extra Pfizer-BioNTech doses for the 27-nation bloc as a whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These were an advance delivery of an order of 100 million doses scheduled for the third quarter of this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A group of 19 states including Germany, France, Italy and Spain had decided to show solidarity with Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Latvia and Slovakia \u2014 considered to be most in need \u2014 who would get their full quotas of 2.85 million doses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But Austria, Slovenia and the Czech Republic had all dug their heels in and insisted on their full quotas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chancellor Kurz had \u201cabandoned\u201d the five partner countries, one European diplomat said, while another accused him of being \u201cegoistic\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The centre-right leader also came under fire at home, with opposition Social Democrat lawmaker Joerg Leichtfried saying he had damaged Austria\u2019s reputation abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Czech PM Andrej Babis thanked Austria and Slovenia for the donations on Twitter, saying they were \u201cfrom friends who are also in need of more vaccines, but they understand how difficult is our situation\u201d. &#8212; NNN-AGENCIES<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>VIENNA, April 3 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; Austria and Slovenia promised thousands of coronavirus vaccine doses for the Czech Republic after coming under fire from Brussels for refusing to help EU partners in greater need of jabs. \u201cWe will help the Czech Republic bilaterally with 30,000 doses,\u201d Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said in a statement.
