{"id":116822,"date":"2021-04-02T09:34:05","date_gmt":"2021-04-02T01:34:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=116822"},"modified":"2021-04-02T09:34:06","modified_gmt":"2021-04-02T01:34:06","slug":"covid-19-us-plant-ruins-15-mn-jj-coronavirus-vaccine-doses-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=116822","title":{"rendered":"Covid-19: US plant ruins 15 mn J&#038;J coronavirus vaccine doses &#8211; report"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/JJ-coronavirus-vaccine.jpg\"><img src=\"http:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/JJ-coronavirus-vaccine.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>WASHINGTON, April 2 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; About 15 million doses of the single-shot coronavirus vaccine made by Johnson &amp; Johnson were ruined in a factory error in the United States \u2014 a blow to the company\u2019s efforts to quickly boost production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pharmaceutical giant said it had identified a batch of doses at a plant in Baltimore run by Emergent BioSolutions \u201cthat did not meet quality standards\u201d but did not confirm the specific number affected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company also said the batch \u201cwas never advanced to the filling and<br>finishing stages of our manufacturing process.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cQuality and safety continue to be our top priority,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The New York Times in a report however signalled that issues with quality control could affect future output, with the Food and Drug Administration expected to investigate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FDA said it was \u201caware of the situation\u201d but declined to comment<br>further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Johnson &amp; Johnson said it was sending more experts to the site to<br>\u201csupervise, direct and support all manufacturing of the Johnson &amp; Johnson<br>COVID-19 vaccine,\u201d which would allow it to deliver an additional 24 million<br>shots \u201cthrough April.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Emergent BioSolutions plant had not yet been authorized by US<br>regulators to manufacture a \u201cdrug substance\u201d for the J&amp;J vaccine, the company said, but US media reported that it was expected to produce tens of millions of doses in the near future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The J&amp;J vaccine has won praise for its single dosage and because it does<br>not need to be frozen \u2014 unlike the shots from Moderna and Pfizer \u2014 making distribution much simpler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe continue to expect to deliver our Covid-19 vaccine at a rate of more<br>than one billion doses by the end of 2021,\u201d J&amp;J said. &#8212; NNN-AGENCIES<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON, April 2 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; About 15 million doses of the single-shot coronavirus vaccine made by Johnson &amp; Johnson were ruined in a factory error in the United States \u2014 a blow to the company\u2019s efforts to quickly boost production.
