{"id":115926,"date":"2021-03-03T14:11:41","date_gmt":"2021-03-03T06:11:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=115926"},"modified":"2021-03-03T14:11:44","modified_gmt":"2021-03-03T06:11:44","slug":"us-to-impose-anti-dumping-tax-on-18-countries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=115926","title":{"rendered":"US to impose anti-dumping tax on 18 countries"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/aluminum-1.jpg\"><img src=\"http:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/aluminum-1-696x464.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>WASHINGTON, March 3 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; The US Department of Commerce is preparing to tax aluminum sheet exporters from 18 countries after determining they had benefited from subsidies and dumping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The US International Trade Commission (ITC), an independent body, must<br>approve the final decision by April 15 to impose anti-dumping or<br>countervailing duties, a department statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The investigation, launched under Donald Trump\u2019s administration, had been requested by nearly a dozen US aluminum alloy manufacturers, including Arconic and Aleris Rolled products, which felt they were being harmed by competing imports at lower prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President Joe Biden\u2019s administration determined that imports from Germany in particular ($287 million in 2019) benefited from dumping ranging from 40 to 242 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The same is true for aluminum alloy sheets from Bahrain ($241 million),<br>which the administration said benefited from pricing below the cost of<br>production or the local market of 83 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Imports from India ($123 million in 2019) have benefited from subsidies for<br>35 to 89 percent, according to the US investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In October, the Trump administration indicated that it had already begun to<br>levy preliminary duties in the investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The other countries concerned are Brazil, Croatia, Egypt, Greece,<br>Indonesia, Oman, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan and Turkey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf the ITC makes affirmative final injury determinations, Commerce will<br>issue AD or CVD orders,\u201d the department said in the statement, referring to<br>anti-dumping or countervailing duties orders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the statement, 559 orders on various imports are currently in<br>effect to \u201cprovide relief to American companies and industries impacted by<br>unfair trade.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cForeign companies that price their products in the US market below the<br>cost of production or below prices in their home markets are subject to AD<br>duties,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cForeign companies that receive unfair subsidies from their governments,<br>such as grants, loans, equity infusions, tax breaks, or production inputs,<br>are subject to CVD duties aimed at directly countering those subsidies.\u201d<span style=\"background-color: rgb(232, 234, 235);\"><b> &#8212;\u00a0NNN-AGENCIES<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON, March 3 (NNN-AGENCIES) &#8212; The US Department of Commerce is preparing to tax aluminum sheet exporters from 18 countries after determining they had benefited from subsidies and dumping.
