{"id":11389,"date":"2019-03-01T15:15:00","date_gmt":"2019-03-01T07:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=11389"},"modified":"2019-03-01T15:15:01","modified_gmt":"2019-03-01T07:15:01","slug":"north-korea-offers-more-talks-after-nuclear-no-deal-in-hanoi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=11389","title":{"rendered":"North Korea offers more talks after nuclear no-deal in Hanoi"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/KCNA-1551415740-4572-1551415754_680x0.jpg\"><img src=\"http:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/KCNA-1551415740-4572-1551415754_680x0.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>HANOI, March 1 (NNN-AGENCIES) \u2013 North Korea on Friday promised further negotiations with the US, as both sides sought to hold open the door while staking out their positions after their Hanoi summit spectacularly failed to produce a nuclear deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second meeting between the North\u2019s leader Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump broke up in disarray Thursday, with a signing ceremony cancelled and no joint communique issued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each sought to blame the other\u2019s intransigence for the deadlock, with<br>Trump saying Pyongyang wanted all sanctions imposed on it over its banned weapons programmes lifted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But in a rare late-night press briefing, the North Korean foreign minister<br>said it had only wanted some of the measures eased, and that its offer to<br>close \u201call the nuclear production facilities\u201d at its Yongbyon complex was the<br>best it could ever offer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the deadlock, the North\u2019s official KCNA news agency reported Friday that the two leaders had had a \u201cconstructive and candid exchange\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Relations between the two countries \u2014 on opposite sides of the<br>technically still-unfinished Korean War \u2014 had been \u201ccharacterised by<br>mistrust and antagonism\u201d for decades, it said, and there were \u201cinevitable<br>hardships and difficulties\u201d on the way to forging a new relationship. It<br>described the Hanoi meeting as \u201csuccessful\u201d and said Kim had promised Trump another encounter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Similarly, Trump said before leaving the Vietnamese capital that he hoped<br>to meet Kim again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSometimes you have to walk and this was just one of those times,\u201d an<br>unusually downbeat Trump told reporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d much rather do it right than do it fast,\u201d he said, while reaffirming<br>his \u201cclose relationship\u201d with Kim. \u201cThere\u2019s a warmth that we have and I hope that stays, I think it will.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The outcome in Hanoi fell far short of the pre-meeting expectations and<br>hopes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the process was continuing and Washington was \u201cencouraged by the<br>opportunities ahead of us\u201d, an official said. \u201cThere\u2019s still ample<br>opportunity to talk.\u201d &#8212; NNN-AGENCIES<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HANOI, March 1 (NNN-AGENCIES) \u2013 North Korea on Friday promised further negotiations with the US, as both sides sought to hold open the door while staking out their positions after their Hanoi summit spectacularly failed to produce a nuclear deal.
