{"id":11383,"date":"2019-03-01T14:59:19","date_gmt":"2019-03-01T06:59:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=11383"},"modified":"2019-03-01T14:59:21","modified_gmt":"2019-03-01T06:59:21","slug":"shadowy-group-declares-government-in-exile-for-north-korea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=11383","title":{"rendered":"Shadowy group declares \u2018government-in-exile\u2019 for North Korea"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Shadowy-group-declares-government-in-exile-for-North-Korea.jpg\"><img src=\"http:\/\/www.bssnews.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Shadowy-group-declares-government-in-exile-for-North-Korea.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>SEOUL, March 1, 2019 (BSS\/AFP) \u2013 A shadowy group believed to be protecting the son of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un\u2019s assassinated brother declared the formation of a government-in-exile Friday, dedicating itself to the abolition of the \u201cgreat evil\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Cheollima Civil Defense (CCD) organisation \u2014 which offers to assist<br>people attempting to defect from North Korea \u2014 emerged in 2017 when it<br>posted an online video of Kim Han Sol, saying it had guaranteed his safety<br>after his father was killed by two women who smeared him with nerve agent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a lengthy statement posted on its website in both Korean and English on<br>Friday \u2013 the 100th anniversary of a Korean movement against Japanese colonial rule \u2014 the group announced itself as a provisional government for the North called \u201cFree Joseon\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Joseon is an old name for Korea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe dedicate ourselves completely to the abolition of this great evil, a<br>stain on the very soul of humanity,\u201d it said in a statement, saying it will<br>continue its campaign until \u201cthe day that light is truly restored to<br>Pyongyang\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It claimed to be \u201cthe sole legitimate representative of the Korean people<br>of the north\u201d, adding: \u201cJoseon must and shall be free. Arise! Arise, ye who<br>refuse to be slaves!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group posted a video of a woman \u2014 dressed in an old-fashioned black<br>and white hanbok and her face blurred or only showing her back \u2014 reading out the statement in front of a traditional Korean pavilion in a field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Little is known about CCD and it is unclear who is behind the organisation<br>\u2014 although some have speculated it has links to South Korea\u2019s spy agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is named after a mythical winged horse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CCD uses South Korean transliteration for its name, while some of the<br>Korean text on its website reads as if it could have been a translation from<br>English.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the past the group has said it responded to urgent requests for<br>protection from \u201ccompatriots\u201d and has thanked countries including the<br>Netherlands, China and the United States for their help. &#8212; NNN-AGENCIES<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SEOUL, March 1, 2019 (BSS\/AFP) \u2013 A shadowy group believed to be protecting the son of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un\u2019s assassinated brother declared the formation of a government-in-exile Friday, dedicating itself to the abolition of the \u201cgreat evil\u201d.
