{"id":110769,"date":"2021-01-25T18:13:47","date_gmt":"2021-01-25T10:13:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=110769"},"modified":"2021-01-25T18:13:50","modified_gmt":"2021-01-25T10:13:50","slug":"ethiopia-dozens-of-suspected-extremists-arrested","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=110769","title":{"rendered":"Ethiopia: Dozens of suspected extremists arrested"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/africa.cgtn.com\/wp-content\/photo-gallery\/2018\/08\/73747009-594x594.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-90170\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Helicopters of the Ethiopian army used in the fight against al-Shabaab<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ADDIS ABABA, Jan 25 (NNN-Xinhua) &#8212; Dozens of suspected Ethiopian extremists have been arrested in a sting operation, state media outlet Ethiopia Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>EBC reported the suspects were caught during a sting operation in Dena-Mena locality of Bale zone in Ethiopia&#8217;s Oromia regional state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jeilan Aman, Chief Police Commissioner, Bale Zone, said scores of machetes and rifles were confiscated from the suspects who are members of a self-styled &#8220;Islamic State Center&#8221; extremist group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Islamic State Center ideology closely mirrors that of another extremist group, the Daesh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The Islamic State Center&#8221; espouses various extremist beliefs including advocating for citizens to disobey government regulations including paying taxes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aman said the extremist group has connections with another extremist group, al-Shabaab which is based in neighboring Somalia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The suspects which had received military training in remote hideouts such as caves were preparing to conduct terror attacks when they were arrested,&#8221; Aman further said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last November, The Ethiopia National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) disclosed it had arrested 14 suspected members of the extremist groups Daesh and al-Shabaab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 14 suspects were arrested while planning terror attacks in various parts of Ethiopia. &#8212; NNN-XINHUA<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Helicopters of the Ethiopian army used in the fight against al-Shabaab ADDIS ABABA, Jan 25 (NNN-Xinhua) &#8212; Dozens of suspected Ethiopian extremists have been arrested in a sting operation, state media outlet Ethiopia Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) reported.
