KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 11 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysian Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has expressed his concern over the increase in the number of COVID-19 fatalities in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said a total of 71 deaths were recorded within the first nine days of this year, compared to less than 100 fatalities recorded during the first nine months of 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are very concerned with this development and may Allah swt protect us all. #kitajagakita,\u201d he tweeted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr Noor Hisham\u2019s tweet garnered 9,334 likes and 7,856 as well as 232 comments after nine hours it was posted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the users said he hoped that the government would impose total lockdown to prevent more COVID-19 deaths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I feel sorry to see family members of those who died of COVID-19, when they were not allowed to prepare the bodies for burial, a user by the name of Ariff Zuber wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As of Sunday, the cumulative total of COVID-19 deaths in the country stood at 551 cases or 0.41 per cent from the total 135,992 positive cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last Friday, Malaysia reported its highest tally of daily COVID-19 fatalities after recording 16 cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
