{"id":108472,"date":"2021-01-04T12:18:39","date_gmt":"2021-01-04T04:18:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=108472"},"modified":"2021-01-04T12:18:40","modified_gmt":"2021-01-04T04:18:40","slug":"floods-in-pahang-claim-first-victim-father-drowns-son-still-missing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=108472","title":{"rendered":"Floods in Pahang Claim First Victim: Father Drowns, Son Still Missing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KUANTAN&nbsp;(Pahang, Malaysia), Jan 4 (Bernama) &#8212; The floods in Malaysia\u2019s central state of Pahang claimed its first victim when a staff of Jerantut District Forestry Department Office drowned, while his son went missing while wading through floodwaters in&nbsp;Kampung Gintong, about 100km from here Sunday&nbsp;night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jerantut Police chief Supt Mazlan Hassan said the victim, Zulkarnain Hitam, 58, was found drowned at&nbsp;10.30 pm, believed after being washed away by a strong current while walking home with his three sons after removing their family car&nbsp;to higher ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of his sons, Ukai&nbsp;Iskandar, 23, who is a student of a local university in Gambang here, was also washed away and yet to be found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll of them were believed to have walked home&nbsp;from Kampung Gintong to Taman&nbsp;Perdana, about two kilometres from where they left their car,\u201d he told Bernama when contacted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mazlan said the other two sons, aged 13 and 15, managed to be saved by the villagers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The search for Ukai Iskandar, which began at 11 pm Sunday, had to be temporarily stopped at 3 am Monday due to bad weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mazlan also advised the public to be vigilant with the development of floods and always follow the instructions of the authorities throughout the flood season to avoid untoward incidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8212; BERNAMA&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KUANTAN&nbsp;(Pahang, Malaysia), Jan 4 (Bernama) &#8212; The floods in Malaysia\u2019s central state of Pahang claimed its first victim when a staff of Jerantut District Forestry Department Office drowned, while his son went missing while wading through floodwaters in&nbsp;Kampung Gintong, about 100km from here Sunday&nbsp;night.
