BANGKOK, Dec 3 (Bernama) — Another six Thai nationals\nwho skipped quarantine after sneaking into Thailand from Myanmar via natural\nborder crossings have tested positive for COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This brings to 10 the number of Thai women who tested\npositive after illegally entering the kingdom. All the quarantine\nflouters worked at Tachileik province in Myanmar. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the latest development, six Thai women, aged between\n21 and 36, sneaked into the kingdom in the northern province of\nChiang Rai last week and tested positive for COVID-19 days later. Some of them\nhad travelled to Bangkok and other provinces. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Disease Control Department director Dr Sophon\nIamsirithawon said all the new cases entered Thailand via Chiang Rai\u2019s Mae\nSai district and dodged compulsory quarantine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the new cases included two\nwomen, aged 21 and 25 and working at a hotel in Tachileik\nprovince, who entered the kingdom via Mae Sai land border and later flew\nto Bangkok and Phitsanulok. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey were tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday and\nTuesday,\u201d he said at a press conference Thursday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Besides that, Dr Sophon said a 36-year-old Thai woman\nwho worked in Myanmar sneaked into the kingdom and later caught a flight from\nChiang Mai to Bangkok, before travelling by bus to Ratchaburi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cShe went to a private hospital for COVID-19 test after\nlearning one of her friends had tested positive,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The other new cases included two women aged 23 and\n25, who lived in Chiang Mai and were friends of a confirmed case, and a\n28-year-old woman who worked at a hotel in the Tachileik border town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Public Health Ministry deputy permanent\nsecretary Dr Thongchai Keeratihatayakorn said close contacts of the 10\npatients have undergo screening and tested negative for\nCOVID-19. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNo local transmission has been reported thus far,\u201d he\nsaid. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
To date, Thailand has recorded 4,026 COVID-19 cases with 60\nfatalities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
