{"id":104011,"date":"2020-12-01T14:22:10","date_gmt":"2020-12-01T06:22:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=104011"},"modified":"2020-12-01T14:22:13","modified_gmt":"2020-12-01T06:22:13","slug":"uk-forensic-expert-concurs-with-msian-post-mortem-report-over-nora-annes-cause-of-death","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=104011","title":{"rendered":"UK Forensic Expert Concurs With M&#8217;sian Post-Mortem Report Over Nora Anne&#8217;s Cause of Death"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SEREMBAN (Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia) Dec 1&nbsp;(Bernama) &#8212;\nA forensic pathologist appointed by the&nbsp;United Kingdom&#8217;s Coroner Monday\nconcurred&nbsp;with the Malaysian post-mortem report on Irish-French teenager\nNora Anne Quoirin&#8217;s&nbsp;cause of death &#8212; duodenal ulceration, perforation\nand&nbsp;haemorrhage as a&nbsp;result of starvation and physiological stress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his six-page&nbsp;witness statement, Dr&nbsp;Nathaniel\nRoger Blair Cary, 63, noted that based on his own examination of the teenager&#8217;s\nbody in the&nbsp;UK on Aug 28 last year, and on the findings of his Malaysian\ncounterparts, he also found&nbsp;no sign of&nbsp;sexual assault on\nthe&nbsp;teenager.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs to&nbsp;the&nbsp;findings on the internal organs, there\nwas&nbsp;no underlying natural&nbsp;disease that caused or contributed to\ndeath,&#8221; he said adding that, however, he was unable to do more due to the\nbody\u2019s decomposed state, especially when he conducted the examination&nbsp;15\ndays after the body was found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI have seen the copy of the\npathologist&nbsp;report&nbsp;from&nbsp;Malaysia by&nbsp;Dr Siew Sheue Feng and\nDr Hanif Mahmud (both forensic pathology experts), that there was thorough\nexamination. I was satisfied that&nbsp;there was evidence of duodenal\nulceration, perforation and&nbsp;haemorrhage on the basis&nbsp;of a detailed\ndescription&nbsp;provided.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Cary, who is the 41st&nbsp;witness&nbsp;at the inquest to\ndetermine the cause of Nora Anne&#8217;s death, said this when testifying on&nbsp;the\n20th day of the proceedings before Coroner Maimoonah Aid.&nbsp;The\nproceeding&nbsp;today continued&nbsp;online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said initially\nupon&nbsp;examining&nbsp;the&nbsp;teenager\u2019s&nbsp;genitalia, excluding sexual\nassault&nbsp;was not possible as&nbsp;it was decomposed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHowever, my further examination of the&nbsp;labia majora\ndid not show any evidence&nbsp;of bruising&nbsp;at all and the\nsubcutaneous&nbsp;tissues were well preserved,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Asked&nbsp;by deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Sazali Omar,\nwho is acting as the inquest coordinating&nbsp;officer,&nbsp;whether\nthis&nbsp;finding indicated that there&nbsp;was no positive forensic evidence\nof sexual assault like stated in&nbsp;the Malaysian post-mortem report, Dr Cary\nsaid&nbsp;he agreed.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am unable to exclude it&nbsp;from my examination alone,\nbut if one adopts the Malaysian pathologist report and in my opinion the\nexamination had&nbsp;been&nbsp;very&nbsp;thorough, I agree that&nbsp;there\nis&nbsp;no positive evidence,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ahmad Sazali: If there were an&nbsp;element of foul play,\nwould you have&nbsp;found it on the body of Nora Anne?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Cary: Many types of foul play signs will&nbsp;be\napparent&nbsp;in any case, but it seems to me the overriding&nbsp;cause of\ndeath was&nbsp;like what&nbsp;was&nbsp;discovered by the Malaysian\npathologists,&nbsp;which was&nbsp;intestinal bleeding.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;\n&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ahmad Sazali: I&nbsp;mean physical assault&nbsp;defensive&nbsp;wound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Cary: My examination was&nbsp;very limited\ndue&nbsp;to&nbsp;the decomposing state of the body, but the first pathologists\nwere&nbsp;in a much better position&nbsp;to give an opinion on that.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nora Anne, 15, went missing on Aug 4, a day after she and\nher family arrived in Malaysia for a two-week holiday at a resort in Pantai,\nhere, about 60 kilometres south of Kuala Lumpur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Aug 13, 10 days after she went missing, her body was\nfound near a creek at&nbsp;a ravine, about 2.5 km from the resort where she and\nher family stayed, following a massive search.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The preliminary post-mortem&nbsp;report&nbsp;stated that the\ndeath of the teenager with&nbsp;disabilities, had no criminal element, and\nshe&nbsp;was confirmed dead from gastrointestinal bleeding due to prolonged\nhunger and stress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;The inquest will continue on Dec 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8212; BERNAMA<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SEREMBAN (Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia) Dec 1&nbsp;(Bernama) &#8212; A forensic pathologist appointed by the&nbsp;United Kingdom&#8217;s Coroner Monday concurred&nbsp;with the Malaysian post-mortem report on Irish-French teenager Nora Anne Quoirin&#8217;s&nbsp;cause of death &#8212; duodenal ulceration, perforation and&nbsp;haemorrhage as a&nbsp;result of starvation and physiological stress.
