PUTRAJAYA, Dec 1 (Bernama) — Malaysia’s Ministry of Health (MOH) is expected to receive the first report of the phase three clinical study on COVID-19 vaccine next week, said Health director-general\u00a0Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the report would be provided by one of the 10\nvaccine research companies which had negotiated with Malaysia before this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He explained that Malaysia conducted initial negotiations\nwith 10 of the 12 COVID-19 vaccine companies to carry out the third phase\nresearch to ensure the country obtain supply after the vaccine has been\nregistered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Malaysia is worry that when the vaccine has\nbeen registered, the supply would not be sufficient as all countries want the\nvaccine at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis (negotiation) is a proactive move by MOH after\nlearning that from the second wave of COVID-19,\u201d he said at a media conference\non COVID-19 development at MOH here Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr Noor Hisham said in the second wave of COVID-19 in the\ncountry, Malaysia faced difficulties in acquiring personal protection equipment\n(PPE) and ventilators as all countries were also looking for the items at the\nsame time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said such a situation would slow down Malaysia acquiring\nCOVID-19 vaccine and it was important for Malaysia to start negotiation early\nto obtain the vaccine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe condition set by Malaysia in the negotiation is that\nthe vaccine has to be registered with US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and\nthe National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Division. The agreement would be\ncancelled if the vaccine was not registered,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In this regard, Dr Noor Hisham said so far a total of 23,480\nsporadic cases were recorded in the country or equivalent to 35.7 per cent from\nthe overall cases reported while 64.3 per cent were cases linked to specific\nclusters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere are also sporadic cases we detected earlier and later\nidentified the cluster we can linked to,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In this regard, he said an increase in sporadic case figure\nshowed the virus is already in the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is a what we are worried about, so we have to use\npublic health methods to contain COVID-19 infection in the country and that is\nwhy we have standard operating procedure (SOP) to prevent ourselves from being\ninfected,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
