KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 1 (Bernama) — The National Task\nForce (NTF) will be meeting this week to discuss measures on how to further\ntighten border controls following two shooting incidences at the\nMalaysian-Thai border last week that killed a security force member and injured\ntwo others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Ismail Sabri\nYaakob said there may be a need for reinforcements, especially members\nof the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF), there. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe NTF will look closely on other needs as well,\nwhether to set up new control posts and such or for added assets needed by the\nmilitary and the police… all these will be discussed,\u201d he said at the\nmedia conference on the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) here\nMonday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ismail Sabri, who is also Defence Minister, said those in\nthe northern region should not worry as the NTF has added\nreinforcements there. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI was made to understand Chief of Defence Force (Gen\nAffendi Buang) and the Inspector-General of Police (Abdul Hamid Bador) sometime\nthis week will be providing more details on measures to be taken,\u201d Ismail Sabri\nsaid. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last Thursday, Ismail Sabri said the government is\nconsidering increasing the number of MAF personnel at the Malaysian-Thai border\narea to strengthen security control in the area where the shootings\noccurred. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the same time, he said the ministry will continue to\ncooperate with the police in order to improve operational\nalertness in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last Tuesday, a General Operations Force (GOF)\npersonnel Sergeant Baharuddin Ramli, 54, was killed while his\ncolleague Sergeant Norihan a \/ l Tari, 39, was seriously injured during a\nshootout with a group of smugglers, about 600 meters from the TS9 control\npost in Padang Besar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The following day, another member from the same\nbattalion who was on duty at Post M16 in Bukit Kayu Hitam was injured after\nbeing shot by an air rifle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kedah police later said that the GOF personnel may have\nalso been shot by a smuggler. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
