{"id":103983,"date":"2020-12-01T13:08:08","date_gmt":"2020-12-01T05:08:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=103983"},"modified":"2020-12-01T13:08:09","modified_gmt":"2020-12-01T05:08:09","slug":"asean-states-speed-up-economic-integration-through-acts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/namnewsnetwork.org\/?p=103983","title":{"rendered":"ASEAN States Speed Up Economic Integration Through Acts"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 1 (Bernama) &#8212; ASEAN member states are\nspeeding up their economic integration by mitigating intra-Asian trade\nchallenges and accelerating seamless trade in goods by roads with the new ASEAN\nCustoms Transit System (ACTS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ACTS was developed to streamline cross-border customs\nprocesses with the aim of&nbsp;accelerating land transit movements&nbsp;and\nreducing the time and expense of carrying out regional trade in goods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The broader objective is to reduce intra-ASEAN trading\nchallenges and enable companies to benefit more from the ASEAN Economic\nCommunity (AEC) and the free movement of goods across the ASEAN region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 37th&nbsp;ASEAN Summit was held earlier this month\nand&nbsp;the ACTS live operation&nbsp;which was implemented&nbsp;on Nov 2\nsignalled&nbsp;a clear illustration of ASEAN\u2019s commitment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Royal Malaysian Customs Department senior assistant director\nDr Ramlah Mukhtar said pilot tests were taken between&nbsp;January and October\n2020 to evaluate how components&nbsp;under the ACTS can be utilised by\nCambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Myanmar will join the system in 2021 and we foresee\nBrunei, the Philippines and Indonesia joining later and their participation\nwill be included in the enhancement of the ACTS application and system,&#8221;\nshe said during a virtual press conference of the official launch of ACTS here\nMonday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ASEAN&nbsp;Federation Forwarders\nAssociations&nbsp;(AFFA)&nbsp;executive director Iman Ghandi said\nACTS&nbsp;&nbsp;was developed to streamline cross-border Customs processes,\naimed at accelerating transit movements, and reducing the time and expense of\ncarrying out regional trade in goods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The ASEAN Customs Transit System is simplifying the\nmovement of goods across the region, making it more efficient and\ncost-effective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUnder&nbsp;ACTS, the private sector can make a single\nCustoms transit declaration that covers the transport of goods across multiple\nASEAN countries, without the need to make repeated Customs declarations or\nchange vehicles at each border.
