WELLINGTON, Nov 3 (NNN-AGENCIES) – New Zealand reported five new cases of COVID-19 today, including four imported cases, at managed isolation facilities and one community case, related to managed isolation.
The new case in Christchurch, related to managed isolation and subsequently detected in the community, is a member of the health team, working at the Sudima Christchurch Airport’s managed isolation facility, where international mariners are in managed isolation and quarantine, according to the Ministry of Health.
A total of 31 foreign mariners quarantined in the facility have been tested positive of COVID-19.
The Christchurch individual was tested as part of the routine testing for staff in the facility and returned a negative test on Thursday. On Saturday the person developed symptoms and sought a further test on Sunday. A positive result was received on Monday. The person is now in isolation, Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield told the press.
This person has one household contact, a student at Cashmere High School, who has been tested once and has already returned a negative test. As a close contact, the student will also remain in isolation for 14 days and will be tested again at around day 5 five and day 12, as per standard close contact procedure.
All the four imported cases reported today are in quarantine at an Auckland facility.
