Two Indonesians jailed five days for breaching PCID regulations

PETALING JAYA, Nov 2 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Two Indonesian shop assistants were each jail five days by the Magistrate Court here today after pleading guilty to not wearing face mask and working beyond the permitted hours.

Magistrate M. Barath meted the punishment on Asep Iskandar Nasutian, 23, and Dasmun Sanrusdi, 30, and ordered the jail sentence to commence from the date of arrest on Oct 20.

According to the charge, Asep Iskandar was accused of failing to comply with the order of the Health director-general (DG) of taking measures to prevent and control infectious diseases when he was found not wearing face mask at Kedai Makan Kendi Besar in Taman Medan here at 11.15 pm on Oct 20.

Dasmun was charged with failing to adhere to the Health DG’s order by working at the premises beyond the permitted operating hours at 10 pm as the food shop is allowed to open only from 6 am to 10 pm at the same place, time and date.

They were charged under Regulation 10 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (PCID) (Measures Within Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020 which provides a maximum fine of RM1,000 or jail up to six months or both.

Earlier the two men who were represented appealed for a lighter sentence as they were just shop assistants however deputy public prosecutor Sharifah Zafirah Syed Mustapa sought an appropriate punishment as a lesson.
