CAIRO, Oct 28 (NNN-MENA) – Iran reported 6,968 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, raising the total confirmed cases in the country to 581,824. Meanwhile, the tally of infections in Morocco crossed the 200,000-mark amid continuing resurgence of the pandemic.
COVID-19 has so far claimed 33,299 lives in Iran, the hardest-hit country in the Middle East, up by 346 in the past 24 hours, said Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman for the Iranian Ministry of Health.
A total of 463,611 people have recovered from the disease, while 4,995 remain in intensive care units in Iran, she added.
Morocco on Tuesday crossed the 200,000-mark in infections, as 3,988 new cases were added, pushing the tally of cases to 203,733.
The Moroccan health ministry also reported 72 new deaths and 2,784 recoveries, raising the death toll to 3,445 and recoveries to 168,706.
In Iraq, the total number of cases surged to 459,908, with the addition of 4,510 new cases, while the death toll increased by 53 to 10,724 and the tally of recoveries rose by 3,488 to 388,081.
Iraqi Deputy Education Minister, Falah al-Qaisi, said, the ministry is preparing an emergency curriculum for schools, in which the number of subjects will be reduced, to protect the students from the virus.
During the new school year, which is planned to start before mid-Nov, the ministry intends to teach students through electronic learning and an educational TV channel, al-Qaisi noted.
Turkey reported 2,209 new infections and 76 more deaths on Tuesday, raising the total number of cases to 366,208 and the death toll to 9,950. In addition, 1,511 patients recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours, raising the total recoveries to 317,519, since the outbreak.
Saudi Arabia’s total cases rose by 399 to 345,631, while the death toll climbed by 16 to 5,329, the Saudi Health Ministry said. The tally of recoveries rose to 332,117, with 426 new recovered cases.
The kingdom is ready to receive, on Nov 1, foreign pilgrims to perform Umrah for the first time since the outbreak earlier this year. On Oct 4, Saudi Arabia received the first batch of domestic pilgrims.
Jordan on Tuesday reported 3,800 new cases, the highest daily spike in the country so far, raising the tally to 58,855. The death toll from the virus climbed by 44 to 668, while the tally of recoveries stood at 7,508.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) confirmed 1,390 new cases and two more deaths, taking the tally to 127,624 and the death toll to 482. A total of 1,708 new recoveries were registered, raising the tally to 122,458.
Kuwait reported 775 new cases and seven more deaths, raising the tally of infections to 123,092 and the death toll to 756 in the country. The Kuwaiti health ministry also announced the recovery of 725 more patients, taking the total recoveries in the country to 114,116.
Qatar on Tuesday announced 257 new infections, raising the total confirmed cases in the Gulf state to 131,689. The Qatari health ministry also reported 274 more recoveries, bringing the overall recoveries in Qatar to 128,617, while the death toll remained unchanged at 230 for the third day running.– NNN-MENA
