NEW DELHI, Oct 25 (NNN-PTI) – India’s COVID-19 tally reached 7,864,811, as 50,129 new cases were registered, latest data released by the federal health ministry showed today.
The death toll surged to 118,534, with 578 deaths recorded since yesterday morning.
Still there are 668,154 active cases in the country. A total of 7,078,123 people have been successfully cured.
For nearly a month the COVID-19 cases have been witnessing a downward trend, as this is the third consecutive day when the number of active cases has been below the 700,000-mark in the country.
On Saturday the total number of people cured crossed the seven million mark.
The Indian government’s focus has been on ramping up COVID-19 testing facilities across the length and breadth of the country.
Till yesterday a total of 102,523,469 tests were conducted in the country, out of which 1,140,905 tests were conducted yesterday alone, according to the data from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) today.
Earlier this week Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, cautioned citizens to strictly follow the COVID-19 guidelines.
Adequate care should be taken by the countrymen amid the ongoing festive season, when large crowds are witnessed in market areas.
In a televised address to the nation, Modi appealed to all countrymen to wear masks while venturing out of home, regularly wash hands and maintain social distancing.– NNN-PTI
