ANKARA, Oct 25 (NNN-ANADOLU) – Turkish authorities arrested at least 40 suspects, over recent deaths from bootleg alcohol poisoning across Turkey, the Interior Ministry said.
The ministry said that a total of 100 suspects were detained for links to counterfeit alcohol production and delivery.
It has been determined that some of the bootleg alcoholic beverages that caused the deaths were produced from surface cleaners sold in the markets, and some of them were produced from products with high methanol content, said the written statement.
Police and gendarmerie teams seized 161,062 litres and 6,102 bottles of counterfeit alcoholic beverages in operations between Oct 5 and 23, the statement added.
At least 71 people were killed across the country since Oct 9, on suspicion of alcohol poisoning.– NNN-ANADOLU
